The little girl, in very serious conditions, needed to be transferred from Cagliari to Genoa.
Departing from the Ciampino base late yesterday afternoon, the Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force allowed the rapid transport, from Cagliari to Genoa, of an 18-month-old girl in imminent danger of her life.
The little girl, in very serious conditions, needed to be transferred from the “G. Brotzu” at the Giannina Gaslini Institute to receive specific medical care.
Made available by the Air Force at the request of the Prefecture of Cagliari at the AM Summit Situation Room, the Falcon 50, which departed from Ciampino, first landed in Genoa, around 19 pm, in order to embark the medical team who would have assisted the little girl during the journey, to head immediately afterwards towards Cagliari. Having landed shortly after 30pm at the Sardinian airport, the little girl, also accompanied by her father, was boarded around 20pm, finally arriving in Genoa after just over an hour.
After landing, the patient continued her journey to the destination hospital by ambulance. The Falcon 50 instead returned to Ciampino, immediately becoming available for possible new activations to support the community.
The 31st Wing of Ciampino is one of the Air Force departments that carries out the operational readiness service for this type of missions, together with the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia, located throughout the national territory. The flight departments are in fact available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of their lives , but also of organs, medical teams or, as in the case of the C-130 J aircraft of the 46th Pisa Air Brigade, even ambulances, thus significantly shortening transport times.
