Agreement signed for the prevention and contrast of computer crimes

An agreement was signed in Rome between the State Police and Iren for the prevention and contrast of cybercrimes involving the information systems and services of particular importance for the country.

The agreement, digitally signed by the Chief of Police-General Director of Public Security Franco Gabrielli and by the Chief Executive Officer of Iren Massimiliano Bianco, falls within the scope of the directives issued by the Minister of the Interior for the enhancement of cybercrime prevention activities through the signing of agreements with operators that provide essential services.

Cyber security represents a fundamental pillar for Iren, active in the supply of essential public services and equipped with technological and non-technological infrastructures of national interest such as energy production and distribution, the integrated water cycle, the waste cycle and district heating.

The agreement will allow the Iren Group on the one hand to further accelerate the prevention and contrast of cybercrimes, on the other hand to be in the best conditions to promptly counter any cyber attacks, such as the one faced in December 2019 which, thanks to the protection systems , has led to some slowdowns but no interruption in the provision of indispensable services.

The agreement represents a significant milestone in the process of building an effective collaboration between institutions and businesses: a project which, in consideration of the insidiousness of cyber threats and the changeability with which they occur, is an essential tool for the realization of an effective system to combat cybercrime, therefore based on information sharing and operational cooperation.

For the State Police this task is ensured by the National Anti-Crime Information Center for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures of the Postal and Communications Police Service which for years has been dealing with the protection of computer networks of reality, both public and private, of national importance and strategic importance for the country.
