Rural Development, MIPAAF: signed a protocol with WWF Italy for high-value agricultural and forestry systems

The Ministry of Food and Forestry Policies announces that a Memorandum of Understanding between WWF Italia and the Ministry was signed at Mipaaf this morning, with the main objective of promoting the protection and spread of high agricultural and forestry systems natural value within the 2014-2020 programming period of Community funds.

The signing was attended by the Minister of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies Maurizio Martina and the President of WWF Italy Donatella Bianchi.

“Our joint work with WWF continues - Minister Maurizio Martina declares - for a concrete commitment in favor of an increasingly sustainable agriculture, consistent with the objectives of the European agricultural policy. Today's protocol is part of our strategy to fully implement the goal of preserving, restoring and enhancing ecosystems related to agriculture and forestry.

The identified path - continued the Minister - will serve to increase the capacity for effective and efficient use of the financial resources available up to 2023 in the Rural Development Programs, providing Regions and agricultural businesses with more useful information on existing measures for the conservation of our natural heritage and good practices for the management and enhancement of rural areas with high natural value. In the coming months we will be able to spread and strengthen the best experiences already undertaken by farms and by the Regions ”.

CONTRACTS OF THE AGREEMENT:

  • to promote monitoring and promotion activities of Rural Development Programs devoted to the conservation of biodiversity and management of the 2000 Nature Network, identifying and enhancing innovative activities and virtuous management models;
  • define and promote innovative tools to foster synergies between measures dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and the management of sites of the 2000 Nature Network in the various Community Funds;
  •  identify the best forms of publicizing projects for the enhancement of agricultural production and environmental and social services related to agriculture within the 2000 Nature Network sites;
  • identify tools for the transfer of knowledge and innovations at various levels for the conservation of biodiversity and the maintenance and enhancement of ecosystem services in the field of Rural Development.
